It’s almost a month into the Trump presidency and we are still here. Civilization hasn’t collapsed and we haven’t been nuked. That’s a good thing I guess. But, it’s still early days.
I admit that there are things that concern me lately. Not the least of which are the constant threats being hurled towards our allies. It’s a little surreal to be honest. I’m not sure why the hostility, I just hope there are some adults left in the room to manage things.
It’s bewildering that the US is now attacking its allies and catering to its adversaries. What is the logic behind that? Is there any logic?
I always try to look at the bigger picture before making any assumptions. But I’m struggling with the actions that are being taken in the early days of this administration. Sure, there is no doubt that the government is probably bloated and needs trimming, but to this extent? And so fast? I really do hope they know what they’re doing for all our sakes.
They are certainly catching a lot of heat for it, that’s for sure.
I can understand the DOGE purge, yet I don’t agree with the way they are doing things. We need to do something about the national debt before it’s too late. This is not something that can continue to increase year-over-year. But, at the same time, let’s be fair about it.
Providing tax breaks to the rich might seem like a good idea to some, but if it’s at the expense of the Regular Joe, then there has to be a limit. You might argue that the rich people use their money to provide jobs for the rest of us, but let’s face it: How much is enough when it comes to personal wealth? A net worth of 5 billion isn’t enough. How about 50 billion, or 500 billion? Would that suffice?
And that is what really concerns me. Are the ultra-rich going to give back? Are they going to play by the rules? Are they going to break the law to get what they want? Are they going to pillage and plunder the country to fill their own coffers? Ultimately, will they care about the country?
If your country is on fire, does it really matter if you have a billion dollars or 500 billion?
And once the watchdogs and regulators are gone, who is going to know the extent of the corruption? Your tax dollars could be flowing directly into someone’s pocket (to the detriment of regular people) and you won’t be any the wiser.
It is a perfect storm my friends; I hope we survive.
